Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka Mantra Counting Retreat

Join us for a profound and powerful retreat which is a special method to enable our enlightened qualities to grow strong within us, quickly and easily, causing Kadam Dharma to flourish in our hearts and throughout the world.
Everyone is welcome to join this special retreat, which can be engaged in as a close retreat – counting 100,000 mantras, or in a less formal manner. Please see the retreat options tab for more details on levels of participation. The sessions are available in-person and most are also available via livestream for Members.
Gen Wangmo will kindly give some teaching and guidance within the evening sessions on Mondays 6, 13, 20 & 27 January as well as most of the other evening sessions of the retreat.
Vajradaka Burning Offering | Sat 1 & Sun 2 February
The retreat will conclude with a Vajradaka burning offering. This will be open to everyone but seating priority given to those who have engaged in the more intensive levels of the retreat.
There are levels of participation in the retreat they are listed here in order of most accessible to most intensive:
1. Drop-in and enjoy the retreat
Everyone is welcome to attend any of the retreat sessions and enjoy the prayers, reciting some powerful mantras or simply enjoying the quiet time of this blessed month in our beautiful meditation room.
2. Guru Yoga Preliminary Guide
If you would like to count the mantras as part of your Guru Yoga Preliminary Guide, you may join the sessions and count as many mantras as you are able to throughout the month. You do not need to sit on the same cushion/seat and sessions may be done either at home or at the centre.
3. Close retreat of Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka
To participate as a Close Retreat the requisites are:
- To count 100k mantras of Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka within qualified sessions by 31 January.
- To attend and engage in the Vajradaka Burning Offering presided by Gen Wangmo on 1 & 2 February.
Please note that for the close retreat:
- All sessions must be done on the same cushion/seat either at the centre or at home.
- You must complete a minimum of two sessions per day.
- If you are participating at home and the timetabled sessions don’t fit with your schedule you may do your own session times to complete your count.
- Although 3.5 weeks have been timetabled for the this retreat it is possible to complete the retreat in a much shorter time, depending on individual wishes and capacity.
Schedule
3 or 4 Sessions daily available in-person and online (to Members).
Approximate timetable: 7-8.30am; 10-11.30am; 4-5.30pm; 7-9pm however session times will vary around classes and other monthly prayer sessions.

Pricing
Retreat
£15 per day or £5 per session. Booking preferred but not essential.
Membership (minimum 3 month commitment) is available to those residing in the KMC Edinburgh catchment area. Membership is £35 per month and has a 3 month minimum term.
Vajradaka Burning offering
Approximate timing: 9am – 5.30pm both days
£10 per day. Booking essential.
Members
No fee. All sessions available in-person and most are also available online. No need to book but if you attend in person please sign in at reception for each session.
THE TEACHER
Gen Kelsang Wangmo has been studying and practising Kadampa Buddhism and ordained as a nun for over 20 years. Loved for her gentle and joyful approach and her sincere example, Gen Wangmo’s lighthearted yet profound teachings provide practical wisdom for modern daily life.
